Blue Breasted Brown Leghorn - June 13 Pickup
Blue Breasted Brown Leghorns are a unique color variation of the classic Brown Leghorn, combining the breed’s proven egg-laying ability with a more striking, modern appearance. Originating from the traditional Italian Leghorn stock out of Livorno, this variety was further developed through selective breeding in the United States and Europe to enhance plumage color, introducing blue-toned genetics while maintaining the Leghorn’s signature productivity. While the original Leghorn was first imported into the U.S. in the early 1800s and standardized in the late 1800s, blue variations like the Blue Breasted Brown Leghorn are a more recent refinement, gaining popularity in the last couple of years among backyard flock owners.
These birds are excellent layers, producing a steady supply of white eggs while having excellent feed conversion. Like other Leghorns, they are active, alert, and thrive in free-range or pasture-based systems where they can forage and stay engaged. Their lighter body weight and energetic nature make them well-suited for warmer climates, especially in the Southeast.
Blue Breasted Brown Leghorns have grown in popularity due to their balance of performance and appearance, offering both high egg production and a visually striking addition to any flock.
They’re a great choice for chicken keepers who want a productive bird that stands out.
