Part of our Crested Collection.
The Gold Laced Polish is one of the oldest Polish color varieties.
The breed itself likely developed in the Netherlands and surrounding Central European regions during the 1500–1700s before spreading into England. Their name likely comes from the old Dutch word "Pol" meaning "large head," referring to their distinctive feather crest, rather than the country of Poland.
By the mid-1800s, English poultry breeders had refined and standardized the Gold Laced variety, carefully selecting birds with rich golden plumage outlined by sharp black lacing. These striking markings, combined with the breed's signature rounded crest, quickly made the Gold Laced Polish one of the most admired exhibition chickens in Europe.
During the Victorian era, ornamental poultry became a symbol of status and sophistication, and Gold Laced Polish were frequently found in the gardens and estates of wealthy families. Today, they remain one of the most iconic and sought-after ornamental chicken breeds, prized for their dramatic appearance, gentle temperament, and timeless beauty.
