For the past several years, we've been working with an exciting commercial blue egg layer developed from the Vario Ovo breeding program by Centurion Poultry. Designed specifically for specialty egg production, these birds combine the exceptional laying ability of modern commercial white egg strains with the genetics needed to consistently produce beautiful blue eggs. After seeing firsthand how well they performed in our own laying flocks at Southern Acre Farm, we knew we wanted to make them available to our Charley's Chicks customers.
We affectionately call them Charley's Eggers™.
At first glance, Charley's Eggers closely resemble a classic White Leghorn. Most birds display bright white plumage, while a percentage naturally develop random black patches or flecks throughout their feathers, giving every flock a unique look. This variation is a normal characteristic of the breeding line and makes no difference in their outstanding laying performance.
What truly sets Charley's Eggers apart is their incredible productivity. These hens were developed with commercial egg production in mind, producing an impressive number of beautiful blue eggs while remaining efficient, active, and economical to feed. Their lightweight body, excellent feed conversion, and early maturity make them exceptional additions to both backyard flocks and larger egg-producing operations.
After incorporating them into our own egg production program at Southern Acre Farm, they've quickly become one of our favorite blue egg layers. They've consistently impressed us with their reliability, egg quality, and vibrant shell color, earning a permanent place in our flock. Today, we're excited to offer Charley's Eggers to our customers so they can experience the same dependable production and beautiful blue eggs we've come to appreciate on our own farm.
